Camu Camu Olympicus Cuadra

Organic Camu Camu from Mazamari, Peru.

Organic Camu Camu

Juan is our Certified Organic Camu Camu grower in Mazamari.  Camu Camu is traditionally wild harvested from a bush that grows in black water rivers, especially in those abandoned courses called cochas, ecosystems of great social and economic importance for the Amazonian jungle of Peru. The Camu Camu fruit is approximately 2 centimeters in diameter and has a purplish red skin with a yellow pulp.

Camu Camu is traditionally made into a juice by people of the rainforest to support the immune system, ward off viral infections, and help maintain optimal health, especially under conditions of stress and anxiety, which tend to deplete the immune system. Due to a large increase in world demand there has been quite a lot of strain put on the wild Camu Camu bushes.  We have been working with Juan for several years now to grow Camu Camu bushes organically on his land, which is on the banks of one of the tributaries of the Amazon.  We now have Camu Camu available from this farm, which is certified organic and harvested in a completely sustainable way.

Last time I visited Juan he prepared the most amazing Camu Camu drink using fresh Camu Camu berries, spring water and locally harvested honey...it was the closest thing to Ambrosia that I've ever tasted!

This grower is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
